Kalea received her 2nd Emmy nomination in June 2021 for a "day-turn" story she did in June 2020.
She was also recognized for her work as a multimedia journalist by the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters Awards. She was awarded the "Best Video Journalist/One Man Band" 2nd place award in April 2019.
She received her first Emmy nomination in 2018 for a segment detailing the aftermath of a deadly flood in West Virginia.
In March 2018, Kalea received the "Best Photojournalist" award by the West Virginia Broadcasters Association for her work as a multimedia journalist.
